Bob Unruh
In 1995, Bob Unruh became part of the Design Construction team to serve in a Marketing, Sales Management and Product Design role. Bob’s focus is on residential communities, where he enjoys the challenges of custom-designing to the client’s specific requirements and details and being very “hands on” with individual residential customers. He is a 1979 graduate of Wheaton College (Illinois) with a Bachelor of Science degree. His work experiences include nine years of involvement in residential marketing and sales management in Boca Raton, Florida. Bob has served as a Homebuilder’s Association Board Member, was the Chairperson of the Sales and Marketing Council in 1995 and 1996 and was awarded Sales Manager of the Year in 2005. Very active in the community, Bob is also a graduate of Leadership Akron, Class XXIV.

Design Construction started as a local custom home building business in 1988 and has evolved into a well balanced enterprise producing award winning single-family and “maintenance-free lifestyle” residential communities. Since each of the owners of Design Construction live locally, we fiercely protect and safeguard our Company’s reputation. Unlike an “out-of-town” or “out-of-state” operation, we meet our customers at grocery stores, gas stations, movie theatres, restaurants, church, and ball games. We don’t believe that bigger is better. We believe that better is better. Period. We are entrenched in this area, committed to this area and only this area. For the “Better Homes Begin Here” claim to be made, we refer to a lengthy history of hearing this evaluation from many of our customers. 	Mike Rankine graduated from the University of Akron in 1983 with a Bachelors degree of Construction Technology and Management. After gaining eight years of experience in home building and remodeling, Mike joined Design Construction in 1991. Mike’s duties include controlling and finance, personnel/human resources, scheduling and purchasing systems administration and contract administration. He has served the Homebuilder’s Association as President in 2000 and has multiple years of service on the Board of Directors, chairing many committees over the years – Ethics Committee, Parades of Homes Committees, Associate Contractors Committee, and Public Relations Committee.

	Len Huddleston Joined with the Design Construction team as partner/owner in 1998. He provides the standard of excellence in the areas of field supervision, construction management, quality control, safety programs and customer satisfaction. Len’s position as partner for Design construction allows him the responsibilities for all field operations, supervision, critical path scheduling, purchasing, training and estimating for the Residential operations. He has certification through OSHA safety standards and is co-chairperson for Green Housing and is currently working on his certification. Over the years, Len has been directly responsible for the construction of over 1000 homes in Northeast Ohio. He has many years of service on the Executive Committee of the Homebuilder’s Association and served as President of the Association in 2007. His service with the HBA included Secretary Treasurer in ’05, VP in ’06, and chairperson on the building codes committee from ’02-’05 and in ’08.


						“Better Homes” Happen Because of a Better Staff Years ago the principals of Design Construction made concious decisions that "Better Homes" would begin at their company. Design's staff members are also committed to the concept that each purchaser’s experience should be better than they expected – simple, enjoyable and fulfilling – *FUN!* Design Construction has planned for and designed processes in order to enhance the experiences of each customer through each step of the designing and building of each home.




		In the spring of 2008, Design Construction completed a new state-of-the-art facility, designed to allow the Company to better meet the needs of its clients. The new building includes a large, completely appointed Selection and Design Center where customers meet with our Selection Coordinator – featuring galleries for Flooring, Trim, Cabinetry, Lighting, Bathrooms – every selection and upgrade is represented, making the process of selections a “one-stop shop.” Each customer comes into contact with experts at Design Construction who tailor their talents to the needs of each project, every step of the way – from the origination of design through the Customer Satisfaction program after completion. Every Design Construction employee at every level is empowered by the Principals to serve each customer’s unique needs. Although awards have been won and accolades have been many, the organization understands that recognition comes as a result of these types of commitments.
